MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the San Diego CHOICE Program is to provide a comprehensive array of services to at-risk youth which are designed to stabilize behavior, increase independence, self sufficiency and prevent out-of-home placements. These services are accomplished through intensive, community-based, family-centered interventions, which foster positive growth and empower the youth and their family. PROGRAM OVERVIEW The San Diego CHOICE program is an intensive, service intervention program of the June Burnett Institute at San Diego State University Foundation. San Diego CHOICE works with families and youth, between the ages of nine and eighteen, that have exhibited multiple risk factors. CHOICE provides monitoring and case management services by trained professionals within the home, school and community settings. The CHOICE Program is guided by the philosophy that youth who exhibit behaviors such as truancy, ungovernable behavior, running away or delinquency are best treated in the community and whenever possible within the family. CHOICE staff generally monitor their clients daily to provide intensive case management services. Workers monitor school attendance, assist with school meetings, monitor client behaviors, provide recreation, support youth in court and work with the youth's family on a daily basis. Workers not only assure clients are following home rules and court orders but act as positive role models for the youth. The service staff are generally recent college graduates that dedicate a year to helping youth, families, and the community. |
