Help enhance SDSU's national prominence in research
Increase sponsored programs award volume.
- Explore opportunities with the University to initiate new interdisciplinary projects.
- Seek multi-million dollar, full F&A projects.
- Monitor the funding opportunities and emerging research needs of federal and state governmental agencies.
- Work with private businesses to identify research opportunities, convey information regarding the University's capabilities, and create collaborative arrangements.
- Assist faculty and staff in making effective presentations to agencies, foundations, businesses, and other organizations that are potential sources of external funding.
- Hire soft-money researchers.
Manage and market our intellectual property effectively.
- Institutionalize new disclosure, evaluation, assignment, marketing and licensing of intellectual property.
- Develop new royalty distribution and administrative fee structure to support Technology Transfer Office operations.
- Accelerate licensing of existing and new intellectual property assigned to the University.
- Review existing portfolio and eliminate non-viable intellectual property and reduce cost exposure.
Create an environment that increases the percentage of faculty who are active in research.
- Simplify and streamline administrative processes for research.
- Invest in modern research facilities and infrastructure.
- Increase support to faculty and staff in the administration of their sponsored programs.
- Routinely meet with researchers who represent various disciplines to understand their needs and aspirations.
- Work with University to establish first-rate interdisciplinary research centers.
- Provide mentoring for junior faculty to help them succeed as productive researchers.
Increase F&A recovery rate.
- Inform faculty of the benefits of applying for grants that allow full F&A.
- Include F&A information in grant notices.
- Work with University on research space allocations to maximize the facilities portion of F&A in future negotiations.
