Safety Tips
SDSURF employees are its most important asset. We should strive to ensure that our office environments are safe at all times. To keep them safe please remember the following:
Entrance Areas – Monitoring reception areas is critical to ensuring a safe workplace. In addition, all visitors must have permission to enter SDSURF work areas (even if the visitors wear the uniform of contract cleaning or other service personnel). Checking all doors, windows, and locks frequently is an excellent way to increase workplace security.
Suspicious Activity – Employees should report any suspicious persons or activity in and around buildings, and suspicious packages should never be opened. Instead, report them to the applicable authorities for proper search and disposal.
Information Safety– Second only to securing our people's safety is protecting our organization's vital business information. Unfortunately, it is increasingly easy for computer “hackers” or others to steal. Use the latest security software to update and back up important data. Paper documents with critical information should be shredded as soon as they are no longer needed.
Equipment Security – Keeping an inventory of all critical equipment, hardware, and software used by employees and owned by SDSURF is highly recommended. This is especially important if you consider that electronic devices are becoming more compact, thus easier to conceal and remove.
Employee Valuables – Please use secure places, such as lockable drawers or closets to secure employee property i.e., valuables or anything that reveals personal information. These items should be locked away if the employee is away from her/his desk or workstation during the day.
Parking Lot Security/Lighting – Because crime flourishes in the dark, a buddy system is helpful if employees work late.
