Export Controls Workshop: What You Need to Know!

Wednesday, November 4, 2009
9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

Because the federal government is now placing greater emphasis on national security issues, universities, colleges, and others must be able to demonstrate that they can comply with export control laws and avoid the transfer of restricted technology and information to foreign nationals. Export controls apply to all research---not just sponsored activities. The regulations involve reviewing and protecting information, technology, students, faculty, and staff to ensure that SDSU is in compliance with U.S. export regulations.

This informative workshop will be presented by representatives from the Bureau of Industry and Security and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement offices. The seminar will offer an introduction to export control regulations and exemptions, and will provide suggestions on how SDSU and faculty can avoid the serious penalties associated with even unintentional violation of the laws.

All SDSU faculty and staff who work on funded or unfunded research projects are encouraged to attend this important workshop. If you would like to attend, please contact Jonathan Florendo at jflorendo@foundation.sdsu.edu or 4-4635 to reserve your seat and for on-campus location information.
