This Statement of Work covers the need for the services of a college student to provide technical and/or analytical support in the field of physics, mathematics, engineering, psychology or social science for the project: STEM (Science, Technologists, Engineers and Mathematicians) with Class. The purpose of this project is to make the science and technology that SSC Pacific performs more accessible to each other and the community.
A Navy Contract position is available through the SDSU Research Foundation. Work involves performing data analysis at the Naval Laboratories in Old Town or Point Loma (SSCSD or NHRC). Student data analysts employed on the Navy Contract gain insight and work experience in a variety of laboratory research projects related to their major field.
Senior or graduate student with a strong background in science or engineering and a passion for sharing scientific knowledge. Applicant must have proficient verbal skills and leadership qualities. Required course work is at least one year of university physics and mathematics, possibly some courses related to presenting STEM subjects.
Must be currently enrolled in a college in San Diego County. Minimum of 8 units for students. Graduate students must be enrolled in a minimum of 3 units or enrolled in qualified full-time coursework (i.e. thesis or doctoral dissertation). Enrollment for audit or in extension does not count toward full time enrollment. Must be a U.S. Citizen (proof of citizenship must be produced at the time of hire - birth certificate, certificate of naturalization or a U.S. passport must be viewed - the document must be an original or certified copy).
Hours are flexible to accommodate class schedule. Work is generally performed Monday through Friday, between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm. Contractors normally average 20 hours per week when school is in session; 40 hours per week maximum during semester/quarter breaks or vacations. Actual work schedule is arranged between the Navy work sponsor and the student contractor.
