Job Description

This Statement of Work covers the need for the services of a college student to provide technical and/or analytical support in the field of computer science for the Automatic Payload Deployment System (APDS) project.

The contractor shall assist the work sponsor in the following:

  • Reviewing and analyzing the communications protocol and messaging system of the Universal Payload Deployment System (UPDS).
  • Implementing the communication protocol in C/C++. Compiling and downloading to the target hardware.
  • Testing and verifying the communication protocol.
  • Completing the Graphical User Interface (GUI) design. Integrate GUI with communication protocol and test, and
  • Performing system testing of the Automatically Deployed Communication Relays (ADCR) and Automatic Payload Deployment System (APDS).


Job Location

A Navy Contract position is available through the SDSU Research Foundation. Work involves performing data analysis at the Naval Laboratories in Old Town or Point Loma (SSCSD or NHRC). Student data analysts employed on the Navy Contract gain insight and work experience in a variety of laboratory research projects related to their major field.


Educational Emphasis

Undergraduate student, Computer Science major.


Qualifications

Must be currently enrolled in a college in San Diego County. Minimum of 8 units for students. Graduate students must be enrolled in a minimum of 3 units or enrolled in qualified “full-time” coursework (i.e. thesis or doctoral dissertation). Enrollment for audit or in extension does not count toward full time enrollment. Must be a U.S. Citizen (proof of citizenship must be produced at the time of hire - birth certificate, certificate of naturalization or a U.S. passport must be viewed - the document must be an original or certified copy).


Work Schedule and Hours

Hours are flexible to accommodate class schedule. Work is generally performed Monday through Friday, between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm. Contractors normally average 20 hours per week when school is in session; 40 hours per week maximum during semester/quarter breaks or vacations. Actual work schedule is arranged between the Navy work sponsor and the student contractor.
