Job Description

This Statement of Work covers the need for the services of college students to provide technical and/or analytical support in the fields of computer science, computer engineering, engineering technology, information systems, electrical engineering, physics and/or a similar area of study to support for the Net Centric Development project. The purpose of the project is to assist the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center, San Diego (SC San Diego) personnel in the research, development, test and evaluation of software and hardware for net-centric systems.


Educational Emphasis

Undergraduate or graduate student majoring or minoring in computer science, computer engineering, engineering technology, information systems, electrical engineering, physics or similar area of study. Required course work/experience or willingness to learn the following: Basic TCP/IP concepts, Cisco routing/switching, compiling and building the Linux kernel, lab-based network testing.


Job Location

A Navy Contract position is available through the SDSU Research Foundation. Work involves performing data analysis at the Naval Laboratories in Old Town or Point Loma (SSCSD or NHRC). Student data analysts employed on the Navy Contract gain insight and work experience in a variety of laboratory research projects related to their major field.


Qualifications

Must be currently enrolled in a college or university in San Diego County. Must be a U.S. Citizen (proof of citizenship must be produced at the time of hire - birth certificate, certificate of naturalization or a U.S. passport must be viewed - the document must be an original or certified copy).


Work Schedule and Hours

Hours are flexible to accommodate class schedule. Work is generally performed Monday through Friday, between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm. Contractors normally average 20 hours per week when school is in session; 40 hours per week maximum during semester/quarter breaks or vacations. Actual work schedule is arranged between the Navy work sponsor and the student contractor.
