Safety

Workplace Safety and Injury Prevention: SDSU Research Foundation (SDSURF) is committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment. Employees are responsible for following applicable safety rules, using appropriate protective equipment, and promptly reporting unsafe conditions, hazards, or work-related incidents.

Safety Responsibilities and Reporting: Employees must promptly report unsafe conditions, hazardous activities, or safety concerns to their supervisor or SDSURF Risk Management. Safety concerns may be reported anonymously and without fear of retaliation. Reported concerns will be reviewed and addressed as appropriate.

Injury and Illness Prevention Program: SDSURF maintains an Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) in accordance with applicable occupational safety and health requirements. The program is coordinated by Risk Management and includes workplace hazard identification and correction, safety training, inspections, incident investigations, and other injury prevention measures. Supervisors and departments are responsible for implementing applicable safety procedures, providing job-specific training, and addressing identified hazards within their areas of responsibility.

Safety Training and Protective Equipment: Employees must receive appropriate safety training before performing duties that may expose them or others to workplace hazards. Employees are required to follow established safety procedures; use provided protective equipment and maintain safety devices on tools and equipment. Where professional licenses or certifications are required, employees must meet those requirements before performing the associated duties.

Reporting Workplace Injuries and Accidents: All work-related injuries, illnesses, and accidents, regardless of severity, must be reported promptly to the employee’s supervisor and SDSURF Risk Management at (619) 594-4076, preferably immediately and within 24 hours of the incident. For medical emergencies or life-threatening injuries, call 911 immediately and seek appropriate emergency medical care.

Additional information regarding injury reporting, medical treatment, and workers’ compensation benefits is available in the Workers’ Compensation section and on the SDSURF Risk Management SharePoint site.
